At home with Hali Mason

A home of peace, balance and timelessness

In her London home, Hali has created a calm and considered space shared with her family. A place where every object holds meaning and every detail feels intentional. Rooted in her love for timeless design and harmony, her home reflects a way of living that values presence over perfection.
Below, Hali shares her reflections on how she approaches the design of her home. From the pieces she chooses and the materials she is drawn to, to the emotions that make a house feel like home.

For Hali, the process of shaping a home has become deeply personal. Over the years, her approach has grown more intuitive, guided by what resonates rather than what simply fits. “With my current home, I have moved away from choosing pieces just because they suit the space. Instead, I consider each object on its own merit. If it resonates with me, it belongs. That might be because of its shape, colour, emotional meaning, or design history.”

This approach gives her interior a sense of individuality; every object has its reason for being there. “From the outside, it may not be obvious, but most of the pieces in my home carry a personal story,” she explains. “Whether it is a family heirloom or something I first admired at a design fair ten years ago and finally brought into my space. Each object holds a memory. They are not just decorative. They are reminders of where I have been, what I value, and what has stayed with me over time.”

Her eye for design extends beyond her own walls. She draws inspiration from curated spaces that blend art, architecture, and emotion. “I draw most of my inspiration for my home from furniture fairs and also visiting art and interiors galleries, places like The Future Perfect, Monologue London, Love House NY, and Beton Brut. I am particularly drawn to their curated, expressive atmospheres. At home, I often echo that gallery sensibility by keeping walls white, allowing furniture, objects, and art to shape the mood and visual impact of the space. It is a way of letting design take centre stage without distraction.”

Still, her approach remains rooted in calm and simplicity. While she admires homes filled with creative energy, her own thrives on order and clarity. "Mess and clutter really affect how I feel. I love flipping through Apartmento Magazine and seeing those artistic homes filled with things everywhere. It feels creative, laid-back, and cosy. But honestly, that’s just not me. I’m not built that way. I need a sense of minimalism to really function and feel at ease.”

Her home, much like her personality, is defined by balance and calm. She describes how her surroundings mirror her inner sense of order: “I have always been drawn to calm, balanced environments, and I think that comes through in how I approach my space. I use soft background tones alongside natural materials and subtle bursts of colour, and I avoid clutter. It is not minimalist in a strict sense, but everything has a quiet presence, nothing too loud, but each piece is intentional.”

From the calm palette to the meaningful objects that fill each room, Hali’s home reflects her belief that beauty lies in balance and intention. Ultimately, it is this connection - between people, places, and memories - that makes her space feel like home. “For me, home is a space where I see myself reflected in the furniture, objects, and art around me. But above all, home is wherever my family is; that is what makes it feel complete.”
